Winemaker Notes
This wine is primarily crafted from 95% Vernatsch (Schiava) grapes, complemented by 5% Lagrein, adhering to traditional South Tyrolean practices. The grapes are cultivated under the pergola system in the classic St. Magdalener area near Bolzano, at an elevation of approximately 280 meters. The soil, composed of moraine deposits with quartz porphyry and dolomite, contributes to the wine's unique character. The Vernatsch and Lagrein grapes are co-planted and harvested together, ensuring a harmonious blend. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine then matures for about six months in stainless steel, preserving its fresh and fruity profile.Serve at 14-16°C (57-61°F).
The Story
The Pfannenstielhof estate boasts a storied history, with its first mention dating back to 1561. The Pfeifer family has been at the helm since 1816, spanning seven generations of dedicated vintners. This deep-rooted connection to the land is evident in their meticulous approach to viticulture and winemaking. Each family member contributes uniquely: Johannes Pfeifer oversees vineyard and cellar operations; Margareth manages planning and organization; and their daughters, Anna and Veronika, bring expertise in science, biotechnology, and oenology.
