Winemaker Notes

Origini from Cantine del Castello is a tribute to the traditional field blends of Alto Piemonte. The grapes are hand-harvested from organically farmed vineyards and undergo spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. The wine is aged for approximately 15 months, with a portion in stainless steel tanks and the remainder in large old oak casks. This method preserves the wine's freshness while adding subtle complexity. The result is a lively red wine with bright acidity, moderate tannins, and flavors of red berries, herbs, and a hint of spice. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F).
Certified Organic.

The Story

Castello Conti, located in Maggiora within the Boca DOC of Alto Piemonte, is a family-run winery now managed by the three Conti sisters: Elena, Anna, and Paola. Their father, Ermanno Conti, established the estate in 1963, focusing on the production of Boca DOC wines. The sisters have continued his legacy, expanding their vineyards to three hectares divided into seven plots.

The Origini wine is inspired by the local tradition where families cultivated small vineyard parcels to produce wines for personal consumption. In this spirit, the Conti sisters reclaimed and revived a half-hectare of old vines in the Novara hills, creating a field blend that reflects the region's rich viticultural heritage.

The vineyards are situated on soils rich in volcanic porphyry, contributing to the wine's minerality and complexity. The Conti family practices organic farming, using only copper and sulfur treatments, and avoids synthetic chemicals. This commitment to natural viticulture and minimal intervention in the cellar results in wines that authentically express the terroir of Alto Piemonte.
