Winemaker Notes
Cirò Rosso Classico Superiore is a red wine produced from Gaglioppo vines over 40 years old. Matures for 10 months in concrete tanks. It expresses an intriguing nose of small red fruits and spices. In the mouth it is warm, enveloping, slightly tannic and easy to drink.
The Story
Cirò Rosso is absolutely the most representative label of the winery which has its roots in the history of the family Calabretta. Today Cataldo, together with his sisters Maria and Michela, is trying to give a new impetus to his farm, combining tradition and craftsmanship to his studies as winemaker.
The grapes are handpicked, minimum intervention in the vineyard, fermentation with indigenous yeasts only and musts aged in cement for 10 months to preserve the best and leave intact the characteristics of Gaglioppo. The wine then ages 7 further months in the bottle before being sold.
