Winemaker Notes

The Barolo Brunate 2020 is a traditional expression of Nebbiolo from the esteemed Brunate cru. The wine undergoes extended maceration and is aged for approximately 18 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by additional bottle aging. It presents a beautiful, intense ruby-garnet color, with delicate aromas of wilted roses, licorice, and vanilla imparted by the oak aging. On the palate, it is velvety, dry, and well-balanced, with a rich structure and a lingering finish. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F).

The Story

Francesco and Silvia Borgogno represent the new generation of winemakers in Barolo, bringing a fresh perspective to the region's rich winemaking traditions. Growing up in a family with deep roots in viticulture, they developed a profound respect for the land and its potential to produce exceptional wines. Their approach combines traditional methods with modern techniques, focusing on sustainable vineyard practices and minimal intervention in the cellar. This philosophy allows the unique characteristics of the Barbera grape and the Barolo terroir to shine through in her wines.

The Francesco Borgogno Winery, established in the early 1930s, is a classic family-run estate situated at the intersection of Barolo's historic Cannubi hill and La Morra's Brunate vineyard. The winery produces wines exclusively from its own vineyards, emphasizing traditional methods and environmental respect. The Barolo Brunate is crafted from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the heart of the Brunate hill, known for its calcareous-clay marl soils that contribute to the wine's elegance and complexity. The family's dedication to preserving traditional winemaking techniques results in a Barolo that is both powerful and refined, embodying the essence of its prestigious terroir.
